Let's talk about Vivienne

Today I decided to write about someone I deeply admire and that inspires me in my everyday life: Vivienne Westwood.

You might wonder why is she a person to have such admiration for?

Sit down and let me guide you through her amazing career:

Vivienne is a British designer known by her post punk inspired outfits. She’s a woman and started her own label inspired by punk style and works of art. That should be enough already but wait because I can give you more.

Vivienne started her fashion career working with Malcolm McLaren at a shop in London. The shop was called 'SEX' with Vivivenne and McLaren designing fetish wear. McLaren was an entrepreneur that not only was the owner of 'SEX but' was also the manager of one of the most famous punk bands in the world: The Sex Pistols.

Vivienne and McLaren got married and she started to dedicate herself entirely to fashion but in a way no one’s ever done before. She brought music and fashion together and thanks mainly to her the punk fashion style got so popular. And of course, The Sex Pistols would use all of Westwoods' designs.

From that moment on, Vivienne would gain more and more recognition, winning awards and getting media’s attention.

Her first haute couture collection 'Pirates' was launched in 1981 partnering with McLaren. Westwood and McLaren released collections together until 1983 when she decided it was about time to finally bring her ideas into the world. Since then, her brand finally found a spot into the respectable hall of brands. She tried many different things throughout the decades, always playing amongst the french classic looks (1700s/1800s), cafe society looks, European impressionist paintings and punk/subversive/underground cultures.

Vivienne keeps shocking and innovating. Her current husband Andreas helps her to run the brand and they design the collections together. Vivienne has haute couture and ready-to-wear collections and they always bring a message. In the past 10 years she's bringing themes such as environmental causes and of course, anti-capitalism messages HELL YES.

One aspect I personally love is that she's almost completely abolished the gender issue of her looks. Mot of them are totally neutral and are made to be used by anyone.
