Marc Jacobs fabulous camp vibes closed the NYFW

The New York Fashion Week couldn't have had a more extra and fabulous closure than this. Marc Jacobs Spring 2020 collection fashion show happened last Friday at the Park Avenue Armory, a historical building in the New York's Upper East Side and was everything but conventional. The models walked down the runway (it wasn't a runway actually but an open space) wearing bright and colorful suits, dresses, pants and coats with crazy headpieces, hats and accessories.
The collection showcased many different types of fabric, including sparkling and shiny ones, bold prints and patterns, vivid colors, flowing dresses and many female suits. The garments challenged our perspectives about gender, with women wearing suits and loose pants and shirts. The atmosphere was fun and the models had fun during the show which I enjoyed and think every show should follow this rule. The only other NYFW show that had the same amount of fun and entertainment was the Tommy x Zendaya one that happened earlier in the week.
I love this show because once again, similar to the Zendaya x Tommy fashion show, it has a political statement. Marc Jacobs is openly gay and he brought all of the glam of the 90's New York Club Kids (LGBT movement) and camp style into the show (I feel like he was inspired by can't tell for sure since I didn't find any interviews with Marc explaining the collection). He also plays with our conceptions of gender. Any of those clothes could be worn by either women or men and I think this is what he wanted to show with his collection.
Every model had their own unique makeup and nail style to match their outfits. This is the first time I've seen something like that and I loved it because these little things complemented to the looks. A fun thing that happened during the show was Gigi Hadid walking bare foot. One of her heels broke backstage and she had to walk down the runway without socks and heels but she did it flawlessly. When I was watching the show I didn't even notice the wardrobe malfunction.
In resume, Marc Jacobs nailed it and the New York Fashion week is officially over. Now we wait to see what London Fashion Week has to offer us.
