The feminine architectural inspiration of Dior

The Paris week of haute couture started last Sunday and one of the most expected fashion shows happened yesterday: Dior.

The show took place at Dior's headquarter - located on Avenue Montaigne - in Paris and Maria Grazia Chiuri did not disappoint.

Dior's Haute Couture Fall Winter 2019/2020 collection was inspired by the Greek architectural statue/column Caryatid. The column takes the form of a standing female figure and according to Ancient History Encyclopedia the term Caryatid was coined by Vitruvius in reference to Karyai in Laconia where women often danced balancing a basket on their heads in honour of the goddess Artemis. Maria Grazia explains she wanted to bring the architectural aspect of Dior back and that's why she found inspiration in the columns. To create a mythological and magic scenario immersion for the fashion show, the creative director of Dior united forces with the British-American artist Penny Slinger, know by her feminist surrealist pieces of work.

Maria Grazia focused on structured pieces that would make women feel comfortable while wearing them. The creative director of Dior is known for bringing feminist messages through the collections and she's the first women to be the creative director of the brand.

I think the Haute Couture Fall Winter collection is absolutely beautiful and had such good inspirations. In addition, it was brought to life through two amazing women known for bringing social/political messages in their work.

I personally love the dark colour palette. I think it brings a classy touch and reminds the mythological Greek aspect of the collection. Another thing that I really enjoyed was seeing the models in flip flops and shoes with no heels. Hell yaaa freedom for the feet!!!

Maria Grazia absolutely nailed it. She served dresses, trousers, blazers and marvelous coats and I'm delighted.

Tomorrow Chanel will take over the haute couture week and I'm excited to know what they're preparing. I think it will be hard to beat Dior's collection.
